Volunteer activist opportunities are available on a number of social-justice issues, including health care, environmental justice, the death penalty, immigrants rights, and ending the War in Iraq.
Also, the following ongoing volunteer positions are an important part of the “behind the scenes” work at the Peace and Justice Center:
OFFICE SUPPORT
Time Commitment: 8 – 20 hours per week
Come in the office on a regular basis to help us keep the office clean, do mailings, phone banking, photocopying, and pretty much anything else that needs to be done. We keep a running list of short and long-term projects and there’s always something to be done.
OFFICE CLEAN UP
Time Commitment: 2 – 3 hours every 2 weeks.
Empty garbage, update flyer board, clean up conference room and kitchen space, vacuum and make the life of staff and volunteers much much much better.
DATA ENTRY
Time Commitment: 2 – 3 hours every week
Add new NPJC members, and clean up database (duplicates, bad addresses, etc)
TABLING OUTREACH
Time Commitment: As needed (4 – 6 hours a month or more)
Set up a table at an event with NPJC materials and engage passers-by at the event. This position requires someone who KNOWS what the NPJC projects are, and is willing to TALK TO PEOPLE and encourage their involvement.
PHONE BANKING
Time Commitment: Evenings, as available
Call NPJC supporters and community folks interested in social justice issues to inform them of upcoming events and other timely info. We want a team of folks who are comfortable talking to people, who know about NPJC and can give good information.
PHOTOGRAPHY & JOURNALISM
Time Commitment: Articles and photos due every 2 months
Document the events and activities of the NPJC and its member groups with your camera and/or pen, and submit your work to the NPJC Newsletter, ALTERNATIVES, every two months.
MEDIA MONITOR
Time Commitment: On call, to record events
Tape record TV news segments and clip newspaper articles generated by NPJC activities. For this position, you’d need to be “on-call” so that someone can call you 1-2 days ahead of time and ask you to tape record the news
